Part of a thematic series titled “China in Global Perspective: The Energy - Sustainability Nexus.” Presented by Dr. Claude Comtois, and hosted in partnership with the Institute of Asian Research, CarbonTalks, and the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions.

The series will address several issues related to energy, resource utilization, environment, climate change in China, all with a policy focus. These matters now have special salience at the beginning of an intense national debate in Canada on energy exports to Asia, pipelines to the West Coast, tankers, and the ingredients of a comprehensive bilateral relationship with China.

Dr. Claude Comtois is  Professor of Geography, University of Montreal. The lecture will examine the growth in China’s energy demand, the reform of the energy sector, Chinese strategy to insure energy supply, and the geopolitical dimensions of competition on the energy markets.
