When staff and faculty at the College for Interdisciplinary Studies are experiencing pain or muscle stiffness at work, they know who to call… and it’s not the Ghostbusters. They call one of UBC’s local safety superheroes: Tim Shew, Financial Coordinator by day, Office Ergonomics Representative, also by day.

Tim has been an Office Ergonomics representative for a mere eleven months and has already assisted thirteen colleagues in making their workstation more ergonomic. “People normally contact me when they are a new employee, move offices, get new office furniture or have mild pains in their wrist, neck or back,” he says. Trained by Health Safety and Environment’s Ergonomics Associate Jolene Cooper, Tim adjusts workstation components to improve postures and reduce risk of repetitive strain injury.
