Postdoctoral Fellow, Genevieve Le Baron, has secured a prestigious Vice Chancellorís Fellowship at the University of Sheffield. She will be joining the Universityís Department of Politics in October 2013 and her research topic will be Governing the Global Factory Ė Unfree Labour in Transnational Supply Chains. She will investigate how recent changes in the structure and organisation of corporations have underpinned the expansion of unfree labour practices within supply chains; how companies are ensuring supplier compliance and the effectiveness of private governance mechanisms in guiding corporate behaviour in labour markets.

Her Doctorate is from the Department of Political Science at York University (Canada), where she held a Graduate Fellowship for Academic Distinction, SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, and Presidentís Dissertation Award. Her current research focuses on the global acceleration of the worst forms of labour exploitation encompassed in the term unfree labour and the dynamics of global production. She is also part of a team investigating the evolving role and response of Chinese consumer goods suppliers toward global socially responsible supply chain management.

She is an Editor of the SSHRC-funded digital media outreach project, Women Suffrage and Beyond: Confronting the Democratic Deficit, housed at the University of British Columbia, as well as a peer reviewer for a number of top ranked journals. She writes widely on international political economy, social movements, and the changing nature of labour and social life.
