The Liu Institute for Global Issues invites applications for the Simons Chair in Disarmament, Global and Human Security at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) at the Associate or Full Professor level (a tenure-track appointment, effective July 1 2016, or until filled).
Candidates must hold a PhD in the social or natural sciences, including interdisciplinary programs. The successful candidate will have an excellent program of research in the study of global and human security including but not limited to: disarmament and peace-building; development; technology and/or cyber security; conflict diffusion; conflict transformation; critical security studies; and, macro, meso or micro-level analyses of insecurity. Candidates working in any part of the world will be considered. Experience in policy analysis and implementation is desirable.
The Chair will teach in UBC’s new Masters in Public Policy Program and recruit and supervise the Simons Postdoctoral Fellow(s) and implement the Simons Student Policy Awards; both endowed by the Simons Foundation. Candidates are expected to teach in the security-development nexus. Together these complementary components will enable the Chair holder to build a strong research and education program in global and human security.
The Liu Institute for Global Issues (http://www.ligi.ubc.ca/) is an important part of UBC’s vision to pursue interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research on global issues through UBC’s developing new Policy School.
