Steve Lee is Associate Professor of History at UBC. He obtained a BA and MA at McGill University and a D. Phil. from the University of Oxford. He is author of Outposts of Empire: Korea, Vietnam, and the Origins of the Cold War in Asia, 1949-1954 (McGill-Queens, 1995) and The Korean War (Longman, 2001). His research interests include the history of modern empire, the cold war, and the social and political consequences of violence. He is currently writing a global history of the twentieth century (Blackwell) and a history of warfare in modern East Asia (Cambridge).
