Human Security and Cities
undefined
From a 2008 partnership between the Liu Institute and DFAIT, this set of articles examine the nature and scale of organized urban violence, and suggest approaches to mitigate its consequences.

Urban violence, which hinders development and generates fear and insecurity in many cities around the world, has a complex set of causes and explanations. The 2007 publication Human Security for an Urban Century: Local Challenges, Global Perspectives examined the nature and scale of organized urban violence. This set of articles suggests approaches to mitigate its consequences. The authors, academics and graduate students, originally presented the articles at a conference in March 2008, which was co-hosted by the University of British Columbia and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. The articles are shared here with the aim of contributing and furthering the discourse on urban violence.

All views and opinions expressed in the articles are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the position of the Government of Canada, the University of British Columbia or the Liu Institute for Global Issues.
