Amel is a PhD student at University of British Columbia – Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice, looking at issues of reconciliation, justice and coexistence. In 2008, Amel received her MA in “Gender and Peace Building” from the UN mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. Amel did her Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies and Planning, and B.Sc in Economics in her country Sudan.
Amel is a researcher and social activist. Over the last ten years she has worked and volunteered with different international and national civil society organizations in Sudan (both South and North), as well as in some countries in the horn of Africa and Yemen. Amel’s work and activism is mainly around areas of social justice, active citizenship, peace building and environment
