Matthew is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Political Science.  His research studies how domestic regulators make decisions and respond to pressures in an integrating global economy, and has been funded by a SSHRC Bombardier CGS.  His dissertation project is focused on cross-border M&A, and looks in particular at the regulatory causes and consequences of transatlantic stock exchange mergers like NYSE-Euronext (and failed merger proposals like TMX-LSE).

A recent policy note on this topic may be found here:  http://www.ies.ubc.ca/cross-border-mergers-financial-exchange-industry-policy-note.

Matthew is currently a policy advisor to a Canadian cabinet minister, and has worked as a Research Associate at the Public Policy Forum in Ottawa.   He previously attended Queen’s (BA) and McMaster (MA) universities.  In his spare time he cheers for Toronto’s sports teams, for no known reason.
