Jen is a PhD student in the Political Science department. Her research interests include global forest governance, in particular Reducing Emissions from Degradation and Deforestation (REDD), and the role of NGOs. She has worked with numerous groups on multi-stakeholder processes ranging from an IUCN global forest project in Bangkok to air quality issues in Alberta. For her MA fieldwork, she lived in a village situated in a northern Thai national park to study gendered access to forest resources. Beyond study, living in the forest provided insight to the many values local communities place on their forests and the layers of meanings attached by others to the same trees. These experiences combined to reinforce her interests in forest management and the values placed on forests at local to global scales - it is the who and how we represent these values that continues to drive her work.
