Jonathan is a PhD student in the Political Science Department. He received his M.A. and B.A. from the University of Western Ontario, and a Diploma in Hispanic Studies from the University of Granada, Spain. His research interests include the climate change-security nexus, water conflict in the Andes region of South America, and global climate change governance.
Last year Jonathan attended several of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations while working as a research assistant for a SSHRC funded study. The UNFCCC negotiations exposed him to the array of social, political, and economic issues associated with global climate change.
Beyond study, Jonathan is involved with a small student-run NGO based in Ontario that helps both secondary and post-secondary students connect their career interests to social justice initiatives in developing countries. His volunteer work in Peru has given him a deep appreciation for the socio-environmental challenges people in the Andes region face, and has encouraged him to incorporate a regional focus into his research.
