Killam Post Doctoral Fellowships

The Liu Institute invites individuals who have recently received a Ph.D. to consider application to the UBC’s Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program. Funding support is available for up to two years.  This international competition is open to all fields of research. For information see http://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/index.asp?menu=015,000,000,000

Candidates that are interested in working in areas relevant to the Liu Institute mandate and with Liu-affiliated faculty are encouraged to contact the Institute at Liu.institute@ubc.ca Please send a CV and short letter describing research interests and goals no later than November 3, 2008.

Note:  Individuals holding UBC PhDs are not eligible for these awards.

Olav Slaymaker Fellowship in Environment

This fellowship is endowed by the Simons Foundation and UBC in recognition of Dr. Slaymaker’s contributions to research on environmental issues. The $12,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduate student pursuing environmental studies who is affiliated with the Liu Institute for Global Issues. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Thurlow Fellowship

The James and Setsuko Thurlow Scholarship in Peace and Disarmament Studies – offers scholarships totaling $5,000 for gradate students pursuing studies in peace and disarmament or weapons of mass destruction. The James and Setsuko Thurlow Scholarship in Peace and Disarmament Studies is awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Security and Defence Program

The SDF (Security and Defence Forum) Program promotes the study of Canadian security and defence issues by developing curricula, organizing conferences, lectures, and seminars, and supporting senior graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Simons Student Policy Research Program in Peace and Disarmament

This program is intended to advance the understanding of disarmament and arms control issues among UBC students and to encourage attention to policy strategies to advance their resolution. This year the Simons Centre for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Research is partnering with the International Relations Students Association, which will publish the most meritorious papers by Research Associates in the UBC Journal of International Affairs (JIA).
